Relationships

“The relationship between the person and the collective is happening by the mean of sharing. Each person brings his own history to the plaza (political space). Each small piece constructs a whole. There is a rule behind improvisation. One of the definitions of the rule is that the particular improvisation never happens twice. The rule gathers people together in participation.”

The most important thing on any public space like the Plaza de la Revolución is the exchange of “improvisations” between each individual. First we have to take under consideration the political aspects or influences of the Plaza de la Revolución in the people that inhabit the space. These plaza was started under the domain of president Batista and finished when actual president Fidel Castro took the power, making it a very tense-full place to be. Here are the most important government buildings and people activities.

When intervening we have to have total awareness of what these place has meant for years. An intervention in the Plaza de la Revolución can mark and change how people think and believe of the symbolism of the space and the government. This is a very interesting opportunity cause maybe the intention is to change the perception of the space and the interaction of people in it to create a new experience. Something like this can change how people interact and exchange “improvisations” with each other. Here are some graphic examples of how an intervention can change the interaction and “improvisation” of people in a specific space:

n style="letter-spacing: 0.0px;">

The first example is the normal interaction of people in a common or non changing environment. In the second figure there is an external or new object altering the space an subsequently how people interact in it. The last one is a more invasive intervention that changes completely how the space was used before and how people feel and interact in it.

The most important fact to take under consideration is that once you put a new layer of information in the space, it can not go back to how it was. People get used to the new layer and if it goes back it is going to continue to be in their memories. An intervention in a place like this is very important because it is going to change how people interact not only with the context but with other individuals and more importantly how they perceive their government.
